First appointment at Shiatsu IJburg

Intake & treatment

You know what you feel. You've had complaints for a while. You've tried things. What's missing is someone who sees the connection.

Work pressure. News from home. The effort of building a life in a new country. Worries that don't switch off when you close your laptop.

Your body keeps all of it. And at some point, it starts to show.

Pain that won't shift. Sleep that doesn't restore. A neck and shoulders that stay tight no matter what you try. A system that stays switched on even when you finally sit still.

You don't have to wait until it gets worse.

You might recognise this:

  • Shoulder or neck pain that keeps coming back

  • Headaches that are hard to shift

  • Fatigue that sleep doesn't fix

  • Tension that stays in your body even when your mind is calm

  • Digestive issues, hormonal complaints or joint pain

  • The feeling that everything costs more energy than it should

What shiatsu does

I don't treat isolated symptoms. I look at the pattern behind them: what your body is carrying, where it's stuck, what it needs to start moving again.

Often, people feel a shift already in the first session. Not because something was fixed, but because the body finally received the attention it was asking for.

REVIEW

The first time I heard about shiatsu I was pregnant with a continuous splitting headache that wouldn't go away. Doctors couldn't prescribe anything and my midwife recommended Natascha.

After one session most of the pain went away. It was such a huge relief. I also have issues with inflammation and joint pain and it is so much better now. I 100% recommend her to anyone looking for someone who knows what they are doing and loves figuring out how best to support you.

How a first appointment works

We start with a conversation. I ask about your complaints, your sleep, your energy, what your body is doing.

Then you lie down on the treatment table. I look and feel what the body shows. Diagnosis and treatment happen in the same session.

At the end, we discuss what I found and what makes sense as a next step. Sometimes one session is enough. Sometimes a short course of treatment is helpful. Sometimes it calls for working together over time.

You're not committed to anything. You decide what feels right.

About Natascha

I'm Natascha Lubberding. Since 2012 I have worked in Amsterdam IJburg with shiatsu, Chinese herbs and systemic bodywork.

I came to this work through my own experience of burnout. What I thought was a weakness turned out to be a strength: my sensitivity became my instrument.

I don't work from a fixed protocol. I look at what your body shows me, in that moment, with that specific person. Quietly, precisely, without rushing.

If you're ready to find out what your body needs, I'd be glad to work with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can book directly, without a referral letter. A referral is also not required for reimbursement through your health insurance.

Are treatments covered by insurance?

That depends on your supplementary insurance plan ("aanvullende zorgverzekering" in Dutch).

Many plans reimburse part of the costs, often under 'natuurgeneeskundige behandeling' or specifically under shiatsu. I'm registered with ZHONG, VBAG and RBCZ, the recognised professional bodies for Chinese medicine and complementary care in the Netherlands.

After each session you'll receive an invoice by email to submit to your insurer. Not sure whether your plan covers it? Check your policy or contact your insurer directly.

What do I need to know for the first appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing, you stay dressed throughout the treatment. You can bring a towel if you'd like to lie on during the treatment. No preparation needed. Avoid eating a large meal right before the session.

The appointment is 60 minutes and combines intake and treatment. Payment is by QR code, payment link or cash. You'll receive an invoice by email afterwards.

I'm not sure what's going on. Can I still make an appointment?

Yes, and that's exactly the point. You don't need to know what's wrong or how to describe it. In the intake I look at your complaints, your energy levels and the broader context of your life. That conversation, combined with what I feel during the treatment, gives me enough to understand what's happening and what you need.

I'm not sure my complaint is serious enough.

There's no minimum threshold. People who are still managing but notice it's costing more and more are welcome too. Recalibrating before a system breaks down is at least as valuable as recovering after it already has.

My complaints have been going on for a long time. Is it still worth coming?

Especially with long-standing complaints, a different perspective can make a difference. What Western medicine approaches as separate problems can, from an Eastern perspective, be one underlying pattern in the system. That doesn't mean everything is fixable, but there's often more room to move than it currently seems. We first look at what's there, then at what's realistic.

How many sessions will I need?

I can only say after the first session. Sometimes one treatment is enough to get things moving again. Sometimes a short focused period is what's needed. Sometimes longer collaboration is what the body is asking for. I make that assessment based on what I see and feel, not a standard protocol. After the first appointment you'll get an honest picture, without any pressure to decide right away.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Treatments are available in English, Dutch and German.
